Thiqah Ecoworks recovers organic waste in Uganda — coffee husk, biosolids, crop residue — and composts it into tested soil amendments for land that has stopped holding water and nutrients.

What we take on

Four lines of work along one loop. Waste leaves a site, is processed into an input, and goes back into the ground. Any single part of it can be contracted on its own.

Sandy soil doesn't lose water. It lets it leave.

Where organic matter falls below about one percent, there is nothing in the soil to hold moisture against gravity. Irrigation passes the root zone within hours and drains beyond it, taking dissolved fertiliser down with it.

Compost changes the physical structure, not just the nutrient content. Husk-derived organic matter builds pore space and surface area that keeps water where roots can reach it, so the same irrigation does more work.

Nothing goes on the ground untested

Compost made from waste can carry pathogens and heavy metals. This sequence exists to catch that before application rather than after it.

STEP 01

Characterise

Lab analysis of the feedstock and the receiving soil: nutrients, organic matter, moisture, contaminants, and what the site is actually short of.

STEP 02

Formulate

Blend ratio, carbon to nitrogen balance, moisture target and application rate set for that site and that material.

STEP 03

Compost and verify

Controlled windrow composting on a turning and temperature schedule, then maturity, pathogen and heavy metal screening before anything leaves the pad.

STEP 04

Apply and monitor

Field application, then tracking of organic matter, water-holding capacity and yield over following seasons, reported back to you.

CURRENT FOCUS

Coffee husk and biosolids compost for arid soils

Two waste streams, one amendment. Treated sewage sludge brings nitrogen, phosphorus and microbial life. Coffee husk brings the carbon, structure and porosity that hold both water and nutrients in the root zone instead of letting them drain.

Uganda produces coffee husk in volume as a processing by-product. Arid regions produce biosolids in volume as a by-product of urban growth. Composted together under a controlled process, they consume each other's disposal problem and produce a soil amendment that neither could make alone.
